2010-2011 Comprehensive Professional Training Program in Awareness and Interpersonal Communication: A Gestalt Approach


Dedicated to providing professional training and personal growth experiences in the Gestalt approach.

Contemporary Gestalt Institute of Cincinnati (CGI) works within a humanistic framework with a foundation in Gestalt Psychology and theory. Since its inception in 1980, CGI has offered professional training programs, educational seminars, professional supervision, organizational consultation, and introductory and advanced personal growth workshops, as well as individual, couples and group psychotherapy.

CGI's training programs are designed for members and students of the mental health and counseling community, including counselors, psychologists, social workers, nurses, psychiatrists, pastoral counselors, alcoholism and chemical dependency counselors and body therapists.

Professional Training Program in the Gestalt Approach
This is a year-long training program offering exposure to the experience, theory and method of Gestalt therapy.

The course content includes:

- Overview of Gestalt therapy
- A focus on the cycle of experience, including:
Sensory function and awareness
Arousal and mobilization of energy
Contact
Withdrawal
- Theory and use of resistance
- Working with metaphor, imagery and dreams
- The experiment as a clinical tool
- Boundary management
- Theme development
- Polarity work                                                                                                                                    - Ethics

- Application to working with: Substance abuse; Trauma and sexual abuse;
Couples and group work; Grief, death, and dying; and Body work

Learning will be supported by didactic material, exercises, experiential personal growth work, and supervised practice through seminars, practicums and personal growth group experiences. Enrollment will be limited to 12 participants.

2010-2011 Program Information

Goals
To teach the fundamental theory and method of Gestalt therapy through lecture, discussion and demonstration

To provide the experience of Gestalt therapy through personal growth work

To provide opportunity to practice basic skills in Gestalt methodology through supervised practicum groups

CEUs 90 contact hours. (includes 6 supervision hours and 3 ethics hours).  The training meets all requirements for supervision and ethics for social workers, clinical counselors and psychologists.

CGI has been granted approved provider status by the State of Ohio Counselor and Social Worker Board (Counselor Provider No. RCX 109003; Social Worker No. RSX 078917)

Provider status with the Ohio Board of Psychology has been granted to CGI (Provider No. 00PO - 311519581).

The Ohio Chemical Dependency Board accepts the year long training program for 90 clock hours. Other CEUs will be applied for as requested.

One price covers all instructional fees, room and board for overnights, and a year's membership in the Contemporary Getalt Institute community.  Payment plans can be arranged.
